dwell on design: baxter house
Today I am wrapping up my posts on the Dwell on Design homes I toured last year in LA. The show takes place this weekend, June 25th-27th, 2010.
I visited a total of six homes on the Saturday tour (there were another six on Sunday). If you were to ask my favourite it would definitely be a toss up between Casa Cuadrada and Baxter House. I apologize in advance for the number of photos I have for this one, however it is just such a fabulous home that I wanted to show you as many as I could.
From the minute I walked in I felt like I was arriving at my friends house. It has a welcoming spirit, it’s warm, comfortable and it has a “stay as long as you’d like” kind of attitude. This home proves that you can have a well designed, architectural home that is not intimidating and truly invites you in. The home is made up of several rooms (many of which are not shown), and each room is a treasure in and of itself while still maintaining a continuity throughout the house.
So let’s begin shall we?
Imagine walking through these doors everyday? Impressive Frank Lloyd Wright inspired double doors create a grand entrance with a floor to ceiling window on your left that looks street side and floods the entry with light.

The stunning kitchen that overlooks the exterior courtyard and pool area. A perfect place to entertain.
The main floor powder room with a vibrant floral wallpaper and mirrors on both walls to capitalize on the colour and pattern.

Another spare bedroom, so simple and relaxed.
Oh how I love this main bathroom! Bianco Carrara marble in complimentary shapes and sizes, paired with walnut wood and plenty of glass to create a light and airy feel.

One of my absolute favourite parts of the home is this outdoor casita. An extension of the upper level, these two private rooms over look the pool below and create a backyard oasis that allows you to escape, while not even leaving your home.

Lastly, the piece de resistance ~ the backyard, deck and pool area. *sigh* This outdoor area is absolutely heavenly. I would LOVE to walk out the door to this on a daily basis. Wouldn’t you?
